Open Networks Could Spark A Gadget Boom
As wireless providers increasingly let outside devices run on their networks, a slew of new Web-enabled electronics could hit the market.
Last word: The days seem to be numbered for software, operating and distribution systems that restrict the development of more customised and intuitive content interfaces. Customers are expecting more control over their content. Marketers of devices and content are looking for a point-of-difference to gain a competitive advantage. Although sometimes necessary, standards restrict flexibility to attend to individual customer needs. Like the trend with Linux, we need to watch closely open source systems like Google's new mobile browser 'Android' for potential innovation opportunities.
